In an interview with Portugal boss Roberto Martinez, Rio Ferdinand says Portugal, England and France are the favorites to win the upcoming Euros.
Towards the end of the interview, Ferdinand said, "I want to wish you good luck in the Euros, I hope you do well and come second behind England, that's fantastic. I think the winner of the Euros is one of three teams - you (Portugal), England and France - I can't see any other possibility."
To which Martinez responded, "I don't think there are clear favorites in this Europa League. If you look at the squads and the way the teams have progressed, there are seven teams that have a chance to win."
Ferdinand replied in surprise, "Seven? I can't see any other possibilities than those three teams."
Martinez explained, "Germany is ranked low, but they've only played friendlies in the last two years. They are the hosts and have that mentality of always playing well in big games. Then you look at England, Spain, France, Belgium and Portugal, there are a lot of teams that believe they will go far, and these kind of big matches are won on details."
On the threat of England, Martinez said, "I faced them twice in the 2018 World Cup and in the UEFA Nations League and I really enjoyed it. I think Southgate creates a feeling of club level, it's a very modern team, they like to play for the team and are very united. Tactically, they can be very flexible and it's a very difficult opponent."
