.. Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Bayern Munich ultimately opted out of the race for Wiedlaogo despite originally being close to him. A number of clubs, including Newcastle United, Eintracht Frankfurt and Chelsea, were in the running to sign the young talent in the last few hours, however Wiedraogo ultimately decided to join Leipzig.
Leipzig, Schalke and the player's team are reportedly currently hammering out the final details of the deal. Leipzig will activate the release clause of around €10 million in Werderaogo's contract and sign the player to a long-term contract until 2029. The decision demonstrates Leipzig's commitment to future planning, as they value Werderaogo's potential and long-term value.
Leipzig plan to evaluate Werderaogo on the ground during pre-season, after which a decision on whether to loan him back to Schalke will be made based on the player's adaptation and performance. This strategy is aimed at providing the best environment for Werderaogo to grow, while also ensuring that Leipzig are able to utilize him to his fullest potential.
In 18 games last season, Vedraogo contributed three goals and two assists for Schalke, playing a total of 870 minutes. The young midfielder has proven his strength and potential on a competitive level and is highly expected to perform in Leipzig in the future.
