In the 2019 summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur signed Ndombele from Lyon for a record transfer fee of 62 million euros, which is the most expensive reinforcement in Tottenham's team history. However, Ndombele's performance at Tottenham failed to meet expectations. During his time with Tottenham, he made 91 appearances and scored 10 goals. Due to his failure to establish himself in the team, Ndombele was loaned out to Lyon and Napoli.
Ndombele, 27, is currently valued at €8 million in the German transfer market. This release provides him with the opportunity to find a new club and frees up some of Tottenham's wage space. For Ndombele, a free transfer will give him more options to rediscover the right team for him.
