Since stepping into the green field of Shanghai Seaport, Vargas' figure has been shining on the field, and in 6 matches, he is like a magician on the field, contributing 6 precise assists. In an exclusive interview released by Shanghai Seaport, he talked about his deep friendship with Wu Lei and his infinite respect for soccer idol Lionel Messi.

--What were the elements that kept you on your feet when you traveled across the ocean and chose to come to this part of our country to play soccer?

This decision could not have been made without the influence of Wu Lei in the first place. He had described to me in detail every aspect of the harbor, which made me look forward to the Chinese Super League. I remember two years ago, I joked with Wu Lei that if he returned to China one day in the future, I would accompany him. I never thought that the joke would come true. I've always had a deep affection for China as a country, and I've always seen reports of the booming development here, both in Argentina and during my time in Europe. Being able to join such a big club, and with Wu Lei showing me around the city, I'm more impressed than I thought I would be, and I'm incredibly excited to be able to continue my soccer career in the seaport.

--The "Wubas" with Wu Lei are well known, do you like this name?

I know the name of the group, after the last game, Wu Lei ran up to me with his cell phone and suggested that we shout "Wuba" together, I was confused at the time, but I quickly realized that he was saying our name, which represents the tacit understanding between us. This tacit understanding seemed to have existed since we first started working together in the Espanyol team. I remember it was a friendly match and I saw him making a run, I gave him a hint by gesturing and looking at him and then passed the ball to him, which resulted in the opponent fouling him and the referee awarding a penalty kick, which we eventually won on.

-You have played in Argentina, Spain, Turkey and many other places, now that you are in our country, what do you think is the difference in the style of soccer here?

Soccer has different styles in different countries, and it's hard to compare because each place has its own unique culture. But as players, we need to be well prepared and in top form wherever we go. If I just indulge myself and don't focus on resting, drinking and eating, I won't be able to play a good game and I have to protect my body and train seriously. As for the soccer environment, every place is different. In my hometown, soccer is everywhere, and even 4-year-olds and even 1-year-old babies hold and play with soccer balls. In my country, table tennis is probably more popular, and in Argentina it's soccer, where every child dreams of becoming a player like Messi or Maradona. For me, enjoying soccer is the most important thing.

-Saw you share a video earlier where Wulai took you to try the roast duck, what did you think of the flavor?

The roast duck is really delicious. I haven't tried too much of the local food yet, and Wulai told me there is a lot of good food here. I'll pay special attention to my diet during the tournament, and I'll definitely try it when I have time. Recently I went to an Argentinian restaurant because I really missed the taste of home, just like Wu Lei often goes to Chinese restaurants in Spain, we both want to try the taste of home.

--Who is your soccer idol?

Messi. In my opinion, he is the best player in the history of soccer and I am honored to have played against him on the pitch. He can do anything on the pitch, you can't imagine what he would do, his technique is fantastic. Of course, I have some other players that I really admire like David Silva, De Bruyne, and Riquelme, who is really the best number 10 in the midfield.
