Amidst global media attention, Wambach, the former American soccer superstar, was arrested by the US police for a drunk driving incident. Following the incident, Wambach publicly posted an apologetic video on his personal social media.
The incident reportedly occurred late Saturday afternoon local time in the U.S., when a police officer on patrol witnessed a vehicle driven by Wambach running a red light violation on the street. Immediately after successfully stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that Wambach smelled of alcohol. A Portland Police spokesperson revealed that Wambach was then quickly transported to the police station where he underwent several BAC tests, all of which showed he was over the limit.
Facing the charges, Wambach was formally charged with DUI, a misdemeanor. However, Wambach showed a high level of cooperation during the bail process, and Portland police praised her behavior in a statement for showing great courtesy.
