After beating Hungary 2-0 in the second round of the Europa League group stage, thus locking up early qualification for the knockout stage, Germany's goalkeeper Neuer was interviewed by the German TV channel. He shared his views on the win, Germany's prospects of winning the title and the team's performance in keeping a clean sheet.
Commenting on the win, Neuer said, "We stepped onto the pitch with the determination to win and wanted to prove that our great form against Scotland was no coincidence. We knew Hungary would be a tough opponent, but today we were fantastic and the win was well deserved. There was a joyful and uplifting atmosphere in the stadium, not only for the German fans, but all the stands were full and every team had a large number of supporters - it's great to be involved in such a tournament at home."
When asked if Germany has become one of the favorites to win this year's Euro, Neuer responded, "Germany has traditionally been the favorite team to win the championship. However, right now our focus is to concentrate on preparing for our next match against Switzerland. In my opinion, Switzerland is the toughest opponent in this group."
Talking about the performance to keep a clean sheet, Neuer said, "After the unfortunate goal conceded against Scotland, we thought we should do better in defense. Therefore, it was very important for us to keep a clean sheet today."
