In a pre-match press conference ahead of Switzerland's second group stage match against Scotland at the UEFA Europa League, Switzerland defender Akanji shared his thoughts on the upcoming match.
Akanji emphasized that the Swiss team must be well prepared from the start of the tournament. He pointed out that Scotland did not perform well in their opening match against Germany, but that does not mean they are a weak team. "We know that Scotland can play much better than they did in the first game, so we have to be ready for them." Akanji said.
Speaking about the players in the Scotland squad, Akanji singled out a couple of players he knows well. According to him, Aston Villa's McGinn is excellent in attack and always handles the ball well; Manchester United's McTominay has had an excellent season, scoring a lot of goals; and Liverpool's Robertson is an experienced wing player who always creates a threat to the opposition.
Akanji also warned his teammates not to get carried away by the victory in the first match. "We will never underestimate any team in the Europa League," he said, "They have managed to come here and get through the qualifying rounds, so they must be a good team. There are no easy games in the Europa League so we have to be ready for any opponent."
