In an official interview with UEFA, Scotland midfielder McGinn expressed his confidence in his team's prospects in the Europa League, despite their 1-5 defeat to Germany in their opening match.
McGinn admits that the team was gutted by that loss, but over time they have moved on from it and have begun to face the next challenges with a more positive mindset. "We need to become more positive and realize that we still have a chance to make history." McGinn said.
He emphasized that the team needs to learn from this loss, find out the reasons for their individual and collective underperformance, and use that pain to motivate themselves to improve. Meanwhile, they are eyeing their next match against Switzerland with confidence. "We think we can get three points from Switzerland and we know we have the ability to do that." McGinn said.
McGinn also mentioned that the team is well aware of Switzerland's excellent performance against Hungary, so they have to be at their best for this challenge. He also expressed his apologies to the fans, saying that the team had let all the supporters down, but the team was also disappointed within itself with its own performance.
However, McGinn is confident that the Scots are capable of performing better. "We know we are fully capable of doing much, much better than that." He said. McGinn also pointed out that the team needs to look beyond the individuals and prove to themselves as a team what they are capable of, especially the older players who don't want to turn this tournament into a losing experience.
In closing, McGinn reiterated the team's goal: "We have two more games to turn things around."
