Ahead of Hungary's Europa League group stage second round clash against hosts Germany, Hungarian midfielder Schafer attended a press conference and shared his expectations and thoughts on the upcoming match.
When asked about scoring against Germany at Euro 2020, Schafer said it was a very special moment. "It's every young kid's dream to score at the Euros, it was like mine." He recalled, "And the fact that I scored against such a good team and a world-class goalkeeper added to the specialness of that moment." Schafer admits that he hopes to be able to achieve another goal in tomorrow's game, but he would also be very satisfied if the opportunity belonged to another teammate.
Talking about Hungary's familiarity with Germany and Stuttgart, Schafer sees it as an advantage. "We have played quite a few matches here and that is not a disadvantage." He said, "We have often played against German players and some of our players have even played for the same club. Such experience gives us a better understanding of our opponents and more confidence to face them." Schafer emphasized that the Hungarian team does not need to focus too much on Germany's individual top players, but rather on their own play and teamwork. "We want to compete with them as a team and get at least one point, or maybe three." He added.
