Dating back to that golden fall of 1984, the Peruvian soccer world saw the birth of a new star, Paulo Guerrero. He stepped into the Lima League, a team that was deeply rooted in the National League, and was revitalized by his arrival. In the same year as Guerrero, Hernán Bárquez, who had left his footprints in the Oriental soccer battlefield, also played here, and the two of them worked together on the green field as a golden couple in the 1980s, comparable to the "Santa Cruz+Cardoso" combination in the South American soccer town of Asunción, where they were free.
Prior to his glory years at FC Bayern Munich and Hamburg, Guerrero had made 141 appearances in all competitions and exemplified his exceptional soccer talent with goals, scoring a total of 67.
