Following England's Europa League group stage draw with Denmark, England striker Watkins spoke to UEFA's official website to share his thoughts on the match and his performance.
Watkins began by expressing his feelings about making his Euro debut: "It feels a bit strange to say I've made my Euro debut now, the atmosphere was fantastic and to be honest I loved every minute of the game. It's just a shame we came up a little short of victory."
Speaking about his performance, he said, "I like to get in behind, that's my style of play, I like to cause problems for defenders and I feel like I did that this game but it was really difficult. Denmark, to be fair, made it very difficult for us with their five-guard defense." Watkins was pleased with his performance, while admitting that the Danish defense caused them no end of problems.
Of Denmark, Watkins said, "You get games like this. We're England and at the end of the day, people want to beat us. It's not going to be easy, we can't just run over our opponents easily just because we have world class players. The good thing is that we got another point and stayed unbeaten in both matches." He emphasized England's resilience and fighting spirit in the face of challenges.
Commenting on Denmark's Jurmand's equalizer, Watkins said, "Sometimes you have to throw your hands up and admit defeat. That goal was unbelievable, it hit the inside of the post and went in. To be fair, we've played well at times and so have they. The most important thing is that we stayed undefeated." Showing sportsmanship, he acknowledged his opponents' excellent performance and emphasized the importance of keeping the unbeaten record intact.
