Negotiations for the global television rights of the
Sources close to the matter said that FIFA had earlier negotiated with Apple over the broadcasting rights of the Club World Cup, but the two sides have failed to reach an agreement so far. The stalled negotiations have led FIFA to consider selling the rights to broadcast the tournament to regional broadcasters.
FIFA initially expected the broadcast rights deal with Apple to be worth around $1 billion, but the current impasse in negotiations could lead to a downward revision of the deal's value to a quarter of that amount, according to the New York Times. In addition, FIFA has begun contacting clubs to assess their willingness to accept lower than expected prize money to participate in the tournament.
An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the status of the negotiations, while a FIFA spokesperson said in a statement that they are confident in the commercial and sporting success of the new edition of the Club World Cup and are in regular and productive dialog with multiple parties, including venues, media, and commercial partners, to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.
The future development of this broadcast rights negotiation will be one of the focuses of attention for the global soccer community.
