The draw for the 18-team tournament was split as follows: Japan, Iran, South Korea (first slot), Australia, Qatar, Iraq (second slot), Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Jordan (third slot), UAE, Oman, Bahrain (fourth slot), China, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan (fifth slot), North Korea, Indonesia, Kuwait (sixth slot).

The national soccer team will compete with five other teams for the final 8.5 World Cup spots in Asia after advancing to the 18-team tournament. Following the draw, each group will contain six teams in a home-and-away double round-robin of 10 matches. The top two teams advance directly to the U.S.-Canada-Mexico World Cup, while the 3rd and 4th place teams in the group will advance to the next round of qualifying for the final 2.5 spots.

National Football League (NFL) boss Ivan will personally attend the draw to prepare his team for the coming matches.
