After the Europa League group match between France and the Netherlands, French manager Didier Deschamps was interviewed by his country's TV station and gave an in-depth analysis and reflection on the just-concluded 0-0 draw.
Deschamps began by saying that he regretted the outcome of the match, especially the team's lack of efficiency in attack. He mentioned that even though it was a high-intensity duel and the Dutch showed a more cautious tactical setup than usual, France still had a chance to score. Deschamps noted that France had at least 36 hours less recovery time compared to the Dutch, which was a major test of the players' fitness. However, he praised the team's physical response and recovery efforts, despite the fact that the final result was not as good as it could have been.
Speaking about Mbappe's absence, Deschamps emphasized that Mbappe is a unique player and they don't simply compare him with others. He mentioned that although Barcola has been performing well in training and has his own strengths, a big game like this is still a new challenge for him. Deschamps revealed that he was hesitant to bring on Barcola in the final moments of the game in order to change the game, but ultimately chose to keep the status quo given the overall balance of the team and their consistent performances in both offense and defense.
Regarding Kante's performance, Deschamps spoke highly of it. He believes that Kante played very well in the game, which is a positive sign for the French team. Deschamps also mentioned that he has a number of players who are capable of being starters, especially in the midfield position, but Kante's ability to get forward certainly adds more tactical options and threats to the team.
