Lyon, his journey to becoming a soccer icon began in his hometown, where he came to the attention of the Lyon youth camp while playing for FC Brown-Terrellon. Under head coach Paul Le Guin, Benzema made his professional debut on January 15, 2005 against Metz, and dished out an assist in a 2-0 win.
