St. Germain travels north to take on fourth-ranked Sunday

After returning to the domestic scene, they locked up Champions League qualification a few days later.

Luis Enrique and his charges now face a tough test against the 2020-21 Ligue 1 champions following Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund, who booked a place in the knockout stages of Europe's top club competition.

With their season virtually hanging in the balance away to Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain must quickly turn their attention back to the nature of the league as they seek to win a treble.

The visitors are at the top of the table with 36 points, four ahead of second-placed Nice and nine ahead of this weekend's opponents, and have been in excellent form since their defeat in September. Lille, on the other hand, have won just two of their last five matches and are only two points adrift of Brest, who are top of the table outside of Champions League qualifying.

Warren Zaire Emery, the scorer of Paris Saint-Germain's equalizer against Borussia Dortmund, could make a full return to the league after his injury, with captain Kylian Mbappe

could give himself the perfect 25th birthday present three days early by adding to his 15 league goals this season.

Following last weekend's 3-0 win over struggling Toulouse, Lyon and their interim coach Pierre Sage face a daunting visit to third-placed Monaco on Friday. "The idea is to keep playing well over time," Sage said in his pre-match conference.

"Toulouse is a good team. They wanted to play, but we stopped them. Against Monaco, we have to excel in every aspect of the game. A second consecutive win and a 44-year-old Séché will be strongly urged to make his place permanent, which according to Alexandre Lacazette and Maxence Kakrét's post-match interviews last week, will make the dressing room happy.

But Monaco will be hoping to make it three wins out of three in the competition, with the third-placed side still possessing enviable firepower in the form of Wissam Ben Yedder, Takumi Minamino and Folarin Balogun, despite the suspension of Aleksandr Golovin, who scored five goals. "When you look at the table ...... Third place against the last team in the league ...... We have to be careful with this ...... It's not an easy game," warned Monaco coach Adi Huet.

Second-placed Nice will be looking to close the gap to Paris Saint-Germain to a point, at least overnight, when they visit Le Havre on Saturday, and Marseille have the chance to continue their excellent recent form at home to 17th-placed Clermont on Sunday.

One to watch: Alexandre Lacazette. Lyon's hat-trick hero on Sunday earned his side three valuable points in the relegation melee, their second win of the season.
