It was a tightly contested match. In the first half, Susic and Bastoni posed a threat but were denied by the opposing keepers Donnarumma and Livakovic. The second half was even more dramatic, with a handball by Vratessi creating a penalty opportunity, but Donnarumma heroically saved Modric's spot-kick. However, Modric then finished with an assist late in the game to give Croatia the lead. However, Italy went against the run of play in stoppage time, with Carafiore's brilliant advance paving the way for Zaccarini, and the two sides ended up in a 1-1 draw.
Italy managed to advance to second place in the group thanks to the draw, while Croatia amassed two points and are currently in third place, with their prospects for advancement yet to be decided by the results of the final round.
