Harry Magouni, the midfielder of English giants Manchester United, has shone at this year's World Cup, leading his team to the round of 16, where they are about to face Senegal. However, at this critical time, Ghanaian MPs in Parliament have taken Harry Maguanyi to task for his recent poor performances on the pitch, labeling Ghana's Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as the "economic version of Maguanyi". Surprisingly, even after his impressive performance at the World Cup, Harry Maguanyi has not escaped the satire.
This debate in Ghana's parliament took place on Wednesday (30th) when a member of parliament, Issac Adongo, during a discussion on the next year's budget, questioned the economic management skills of the incumbent vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia.Issac cited Harry Maguanyi as an example of a defender who in his statement, "The Manchester United defender has this season become a a time bomb in the backline, not only making mistakes in matches that lead to his teammates conceding goals, but also assisting opponents to score." Issac believes that Harry Maguni's poor performance at Manchester United mirrors Mahamudu Bawumia's inability to act on economic issues in the country.
Issac continued with a hint of sarcasm, "Ghana now also has an 'economic version of Maguni' (alluding to Mahamudu Bawumia) and if we give him the opportunity to serve as the 'rear guard general ', I am afraid Ghana's economy will be in turmoil." Issac's humorous statement triggered laughter amongst the MPs present and the otherwise serious Parliament instantly lightened up.
