Clubs could face charges of breaching Premier League spending rules. The recent financial situation of both clubs could lead to them being penalized again.

Everton have already been deducted 10 points for breaching Financial Fairness Act regulations earlier this season and their recent financial reports could trigger another penalty. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest FC are also thought to be at risk of breaching the rules.

According to the Daily Mail, Forest could cite the sale of player Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur for £47.5 million if they are found to have broken the rules

case to partially defend itself. However, due to the time span of the Fiscal Fairness Act's calculations, the revenues from this deal will be counted in the 2021-2024 triennium, not the 2020-2023 triennium.

The Financial Fairness Act stipulates that clubs must not make a financial loss of more than £105 million over a three-year period. Forest have stated in their latest financial report that they have made a loss of £45.6 million over this three year period.

Forest have said they could have sold Brennan Johnson to Brentford in June for around £30million, which would have put them in a much healthier financial position for the three-year period from 2020 to 2023. If that's the case, they'll make an overall loss of nearly £20m over the three-year period. The club have said that they believe that waiting until August to accept an offer of nearly £50m would be better for the sustainability of the club than accepting an offer of £30m early in the summer window.

Overall, both clubs may need to address their finances to avoid further penalties and ensure that their finances are in line with Premier League spending regulations.
