New striker Gabriel Jesus was a fireman on his debut as Arsenal beat Bundesliga 2 rivals Nuremberg 5-3 in a late-night warm-up match on Friday (8), scoring in the first 90 seconds of the match. The 25-year-old Brazilian international, nicknamed "Little Jesus", scored twice and was a key figure in Arsenal's victory, earning the team a fantastic start.
Arsenal performed poorly in the first half, trailing by two goals in the opening 29 minutes. At halftime, coach Artemis quickly made adjustments, replacing four players, including Jesus. Jesus lived up to his name, planning an attack on the right, and teammates with the tacit cooperation, in the penalty area after the narrow space to complete the shot, this time just the second half of the opening only 90 seconds.
Arsenal took advantage of the situation and another substitute, Eleni, leveled the score at 2-2 with a long-range shot, before Nuremberg twice set themselves up for an own goal as Arsenal rallied to make it 4-2.
Although Nuremberg's Schulimea pulled a goal back to bring the score to 3-4, Jesus scored another goal to help Arsenal finally win 5-3. Jesus previously moved from Manchester City to Arsenal for a transfer fee of £45 million, Arsenal really got a good deal this time.
Arsenal have won both of their warm-up matches after previously thrashing League One side Yeovil 5-1 in this campaign. The team is about to head to the United States for a training session, during which they will play Everton, Orlando City and Chelsea, followed by a match against Xavier in the Emirates Cup on the evening of July 30th.
