In the transfer market, Manchester United's acquisition of Barcelona's Dutch midfielder Frankie Dijon has been seemingly indecisive. In fact, the reason behind this impasse is related to Barcelona itself. According to Spanish media reports, Frankie Dijon in Barcelona during the three years, the accumulated unpaid salaries and bonuses totaled up to 20 million euros. If Barcelona agreed to release, then this amount will have to pay immediately, which makes the transaction into a long impasse.

In 2019, Dijon joined Barcelona's first season with an annual salary of 14 million euros, while in the 20 to 21 season, the annual salary was reduced to 11 million euros, and in the 21 to 22 season, it was reduced to 6 million euros. However, affected by financial difficulties, Barcelona has not been able to pay Dijon's salary as much as it should, with the accumulated arrears amounting to 16 million euros.

In addition, Dijon, who has made over 60% of his appearances for Barcelona over the past two seasons, is contractually due a variable bonus of at least €4 million. Together with the previous salary arrears, the total amount owed reaches 20 million euros.

Dijon's contract will run until 2026, and Barcelona had originally planned to repay the arrears through installments. However, if Dijon chooses to return to Manchester United, Barcelona will have to pay the 20 million euros in arrears immediately. This is one of the main reasons why Barcelona is reluctant to release the player.
