As the curtain came down on the final round of the World Cup Out-of-South America final round early Wednesday morning (30), Peru, Chile and Colombia battled it out for the last play-off spot outside the four early locks for direct qualification. In the end, Peru defeated Paraguay 2-0 at home to lock up the crucial fifth place position and will compete with the Asian representatives for a place in the World Cup Final Round in June.

Peru was in a good position even before the match, and with a win in this match, they could secure a fifth place finish. Naberdo broke the deadlock just five minutes into the match, and José Martín added a second in the 42nd minute to seal a 2-0 win for Peru. Peru's win puts them in fifth place with 24 points, while Colombia won 1-0 on the road against Venezuela, also with 24 points, but Chile lost 0-2 at home to Uruguay, which is a worrying situation.
