Bundesliga promotion
St Pauli
The club announced this Thursday local time that it has signed Belgian side St. Giles United from
Alexander Blessing
(Alexander Blessin) as the new head coach.
Blessing, 51, will take over the head coaching role at St. Pauli and has reached an agreement with St. Giles United not to disclose the exact terms of the transfer. Born in Stuttgart, Blessing played for Stuttgart and Stuttgart Kickers as a player and also played for Regensburg, VfB Leipzig and Sporting Antalya during his career.
As a coach, Blessing coached Leipzig's youth teams before moving to Belgium to coach Real Ostend and Genoa in Italy. Since 2023, he has coached St. Gilos United and in a short period of time led the team to last season's cup win and league runner-up.
On joining St. Pauli, Blessing said, "FC St. Pauli is an incredibly influential club in Germany and internationally. The club stands for clear values and ambition in professional sport. It is therefore a great task to be able to coach the club now in the Bundesliga after it has been in the Bundesliga B for a long time. We want to rise to this challenge with courage through solidarity within the team and throughout the club. I am very much looking forward to challenging the major clubs in the Bundesliga at the Müllermoen."
