While Genesio's coaching career has been largely confined to his homeland, Setien's experience has been much the same. Both have been in La Liga before, but now they have decided to step out of their home country and look to China, and Beijing Guoan in particular, in spite of the challenges. The signing of Setien certainly signals the arrival of a new Genesio in the Chinese Super League. The Guoan team also seems to be eager to regain the elegance of the famous European manager in the past!
The Chinese Super League is at a low point in its development, and there is a relative scarcity of world-class coaching resources. In terms of international reputation, Shenhua's Russian coach Slutsky is undoubtedly one of the best. However, the arrival of former Barcelona coach Setien has clearly surpassed Slutsky's influence. Having managed the Russian national team and had an illustrious career in the English Premier League, Setien is now undoubtedly the strongest active coach in the Chinese Super League!
