A feast of goals went on as expected on the battlefield of English soccer at dawn on Monday. Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-3 thanks to Mohamed Sana's outstanding play, two passes and two shots to collect four points, and now lead the table by four points, locking up the title of Premier League Christmas Champion in advance. This is the 21st time Liverpool have spent Christmas as leaders of England's top flight, with 11 of those successes amounting to a 55% win rate.
Liverpool were away to Tottenham Hotspur and Luis Diaz gave the visitors the first lead with a brilliant header just 23 minutes into the game. Then Alex McAleese added a second on 36 minutes to increase the lead to 2-0. However, five minutes later, Tottenham's Jimbo Maddison quickly pulled a goal back. Shana then took over the game. The Egyptian striker scored first with an assist to Suboslar and followed it up with two goals in a row. Tottenham were able to push the score to 3-3 late in the middle period thanks to Galuszewski and Solanki, but Shana delivered a pinpoint assist ahead of Luis Diaz to seal a 6-3 win over Liverpool.
Liverpool have won 9 and lost 3 of their last 12 league matches, and despite playing a game less, are still 4 points ahead of Chelsea and are the Premier League Christmas champions again after the 20/21 season. However, being the Christmas champions doesn't mean a team can win the whole season. The last 20 times Liverpool have emerged as leaders at Christmas, they have only had a 55% success rate in winning the title. Of the teams that have been Christmas champions in the last six Premier League eras, only 19/20 seasons have been successful in winning the title.
Liverpool manager Schillo said: 'Of course it makes sense to be the Christmas champions. We always want to overtake other teams in our home position (first place). The most important thing is to keep going, it's not easy to play a game every March to April. One little mistake is enough to affect the result, just like I didn't expect us to draw 0-0 with Ivoryton in this round.
