On a quiet Sunday (1) in Guinea, a soccer event in N'Zerekore, West Africa's second largest city, turned into a tragedy. Rumor has it that a controversial call in a soccer match sparked violent clashes between fans, resulting in the loss of 100 lives and a mountain of bodies in hospitals and morgues.

Photos of the scene circulating on social media reveal that the streets surrounding the stadium were filled with chaos and bodies littered the streets. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the clash stemmed from a controversial referee's decision and angry fans stormed the stadium and threw stones at the opposing team. Police then deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd, but tragedy struck as the crowd surged towards the exits, with people trampling to their deaths.

Local medical personnel said bodies were piled up on the floor of the hospital corridors and there was no space left in the morgue. It was reported that the event was supposed to honor Mamady Doumbouya, the leader of the military government, who is actively preparing for the presidential election and forming a political coalition since he came to power in a coup d'état in September 2021, and such events have been held frequently in the recent past.
