Manchester United flanker Anthony Mafios never expected to become a highly sought-after "double-dip" in the market when he joined the team. Recently, the British media revealed that during his time at Ajax, he had thoughts that if he could join Gop's Liverpool, he would prefer to join the Reds rather than play alongside Mohamed Sana. Unfortunately, the deal didn't go as planned and Liverpool also failed to bag him.

Back in 2022, Liverpool agreed a contract extension with the team's top man Mohamed El-Shana, however, both were in crisis of leaving the team. At the time, Reds coach Gopp was considering bringing in Anthony from Ajax instead of the Egyptian shot-stopper. Gopp has an eye for selection in the past, having successfully developed players such as Shana, Shadio Vinny and Andrew Robathan into superstars. But given Ajax's exorbitant asking price and Liverpool's limited funds, Gopp eventually opted out. Manchester United then recruited Anthony for a whopping €100 million.

In the end, Shana extended his contract with Liverpool for three more years to continue playing for the team. Anthony, the former Red Devils coach Tannhäuser's right-hand man, has played 87 games since joining United, contributing 12 goals. This season, he has only made one start and even his mentor, Tannhäuser, is disappointed with him. It is rumored that the new coach, Ruben Emolian, is not too keen on Anthony either. Some people called him "The Circle Rule" and wanted him to leave the team, even going so far as to use his $200,000-a-week salary and a mandatory sellout clause as bait, willing to rent him out to another team first. However, Anthony is determined to stay, he wants to prove his value to the Amorim, this is really a "send Buddha difficult" test.
