There is no doubt that a passionate derby battle is about to take place between Newcastle Sprayers and Mid Coast Mariners.

Looking back at my former hosts, Newcastle Spray, they suffered a lot of difficulties in the early part of the season, however, for a team that has always struggled to recruit superstars to join them, and only finished at the bottom of the regular season last season, 3 points from the first three regular season matches is not easy to come by.

Avery Adams joins the Spray this year at the age of 22 and I think it's a deal that they did quite well. The youngster has a great left-footed shot and his goal-scoring ability should not be underestimated. In the match against FC MacArthur a couple of weeks ago, he delivered two key goals to help his team to a 2-1 comeback win, highlighting his prowess. In addition, he has excellent assisting skills, which are crucial to the team's offense.

As for Bin Gieson, the equally young attacker is also worth keeping an eye on. However, the team is in dire need of a quick return to form from new Brazilian striker Velezul Santos, who has yet to break his goal drought.

For the Midcoast Mariners, they opened the season with three consecutive regular season games and matches before their regular season results gradually slipped, with a 0-3 loss at home to the Wellington Phoenix. Compared to last season's stellar regular season and playoff results, this season's performance has clearly slipped.

I was shocked by their poor performance, after all, leader Mark Jaeson had led the team to the top. In my opinion, they may have struggled to find a balance between the elite AFC Champions League and the local league, which may have led to the decline in league results.

In fact, they desperately need more goals, with Shabanigo becoming the only player to score in the regular season. I think the Mark Jaeson leader needs to try to get Gouaux and Ryan Emundson more involved in the offense to create more shots on goal.

With both teams currently on 3 points, there is no room for error in today's clash. Nonetheless, I predict that the Newcastle Sprayers will finally get the better of the Mid Coast Mariners and take all three points at home.
