Manchester City's performance this season has been unsatisfactory, and it was rumored that the team's leader, Gordiona, would leave the team after his contract expires next summer. However, according to the latest disclosure by British media football insider, the 53-year-old Spanish soccer guru has decided to extend his contract with the team for one more year, even though he himself has his own considerations on the amount of salary.
According to football insider's sources, there is a 99% chance that Gordiona will extend his contract with City, and he will be in charge until at least the summer of 2026, when he will have completed 10 years at City. Despite previous rumors that the Brazilian national team was interested in inviting him to be their coach, Godiona defused the rumors with a cheeky response, "With City's recent four consecutive defeats, the Brazilian side has already taken an interest in me when they see which game they've won." It is reported that Godiona witnessed the team's low point and did not want to leave easily, but hoped to stay to help the team back to the top, and eventually retired.
Currently, Godiona's annual salary is as high as £20 million (about HK$196 million), making him one of the most expensive soccer coaches in the world. If he renews his contract, he is expected to receive a higher salary package.
