In the early hours of the morning of the 6th, the UEFA Europa League matches saw an ice-cold showdown. Portuguese powerhouse Sting came back from a one-goal deficit to beat Premier League giants Manchester City 4-1 at home, staging a miracle at 60 times odds. Striker Kiokinis scored three goals in a heroic performance. Sting boss Ruben Emolian will officially take over the United coaching reins next Monday (11th). Today, he beat the Red Devils on the turf of city rivals Manchester City in what was undoubtedly a perfect debut for new boss Ratcliffe.
City took the lead shortly after the start. Phil Cotton opened the scoring in the fourth minute, but leader Gaudio sent out 19-year-old center back Senchenpus to start the game, setting the stage for the subsequent fiasco. The game was tied at 1-1 in the 38th minute when Jokilis, whose popularity had soared, overpowered Senchenpus and calmly fired in a goal.
Just a minute later, Sencenpce made another mistake and was shrugged off by opposing midfielder Max Anaozu, allowing the Uruguayan international to score a one-two. Just three minutes later, City had another incident at the back. Francesco Chacao was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty, which was taken by Jokelis.
Apart from the continuous mistakes of the City defense, the front players also looked a bit out of their depth. Despite a penalty kick opportunity in the 69th minute, Aynin Charant's penalty bounced off the crossbar. The Blue Moon's counter-attack failed to score and even before the end of the game, the players committed another mistake. Kadamo was awarded a penalty in Mafiosi Nuni's penalty area and Jokilis scored again with another shot to complete his hat-trick.
The 26-year-old Swedish international has scored five goals this year, tying him with Bayern Munich striker Halikani for the top spot on the scorer's list, and is the second Swedish player to score a hat-trick in the history of the UEFA Europa League, after Ibrahim Mogwai. As today was Rubin Emolian's last time leading Sting at home, the players threw up the ball after the game as both a tribute and a farewell to him.
City have hit a low point since being peppered with four goals at Barcelona in October 2016, losing three consecutive games in all competitions, the first time they have conceded a single goal in the UEFA Europa League in nearly eight years.
