The Manchester City stadium has been in the spotlight lately, with former French soccer star Benji Venditti in the limelight, alleging that the team owed him up to £1 million in unpaid wages. The Employment Court ruled in favor of Venditti on Wednesday (6), with City being required to refund his "unreasonably unpaid" wages, which are estimated to total £8.5 million.
Back three years ago, Venditti was suspended from his job and payroll by Manchester City until the case was resolved in an alleged rape case. Fortunately, the former France international was eventually cleared of the charges and accused City of failing to pay him 22 months' wages. On Wednesday, the Labor Court upheld Venditti's claim that he was "ready" and "willing" to continue to participate in soccer training and matches, but was unjustifiably prevented from doing so by City.
Nonetheless, the judge noted that not all of the £11 million in unpaid wages claimed by Venditti was available, as the claim was only for five months and he was detained for breaching the terms of his bail. The original estimate of £8.5million in compensation will need to be deducted from the amount payable by City in the final calculation. Venditti, 30, currently plays for French Ligue 2 soccer club Lorient.
