In eye-catching news, the CAF has officially unveiled the candidates for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year, with a number of well-known stars such as Liverpool striker Mohamed Shana and previous winner Vitor Osungham, whose performances helped Atalanta reach the top European honors, among others, on the list. While Nigeria's international Lukawin is the center of attention.
Surprisingly, however, in the final top ten list, a number of famous players such as Mohammed Sana and Vitor Osenhan failed to make the cut, while a number of new stars emerged. These include Dormont's Gulas, Atlanta's Lukavan, Rennes' Gurney and Leverkusen's Tasuba.
It is worth noting that last year's third-place finisher, Ashuraf, became the only player to be selected for a second consecutive term, while previous winners Vitor Ossenhan and Mohammed Shana regretted their exclusion.
The selection of this candidate was based on the player's performance from January to October 2024, according to CAF. While Mohamed Shana has continued to perform well this year, his place in the final list of ten is puzzling. As for this year's African Footballer of the Year, his honor will be revealed in December.
