Liverpool's right-back Alexandre Arnault is nearing the end of his contract in the upcoming summer season. Despite rumors about Real Madrid drooling over him, the latest reports in the British media have revealed that the 26-year-old England international has given the nod to extend his contract. In addition to being paid a whopping £350,000 (HK$3.5 million) per week, Liverpool have thrown in a heavy commitment - to let Walkiel Wlodzik leave the club in the future and entrust Arnott with the captaincy to continue playing in the Reds' side.

Faced with a strong attack from Real Madrid, Liverpool went out of their way to retain Alexandre Arnault with the intention of avoiding a double loss next summer. The strategy of fame and fortune clearly worked, as the high salary coupled with the lure of the captaincy made Arnott the highest paid player in the team, alongside Mohamed Shahna. And his vice-captaincy sets him up for a future captaincy.

In fact, Alexandre Arnault is currently the vice-captain of the Reds. With Wahkil Wendicek's captaincy deal expiring next year, Arnott is expected to take over the captain's armband as a matter of course once the Dutch international leaves the club. The past Liverpool captains have been significant in the soccer world, such as Rusch, Sherratt and other famous players have worn the Reds captain's armband. This is undoubtedly a major attraction for Arnott. In contrast, Real Madrid have played more of a green player role in the past.
