On the green field, Liverpool's flag-bearer Wahkil Wendicek (VVD), the Dutch tough guy, finally opened his heart, revealing that he is in deep communication with the club's senior management on the contract extension, which is expected to be revealed soon.

As VVD enters the ripe old age of 33, it has been rumored that his contract extension could be in doubt. Recently, the stalwart revealed the progress of the negotiations: "I am not yet sure if I will continue to play for Liverpool next season. But what is clear is that the club has already started working on the contract extension. Once there is a definite plan, it will be made public. At this stage, my priority is to do my best for the team and put aside the issue of personal contract. Despite facing a turning point in his career, VVD is still in excellent physical and mental shape, which seems to suggest that he still has a few more seasons left in Liverpool.

Back in January 2018, VVD joined Liverpool from Southampton for a whopping transfer fee of 75 million yuan (about HK$750 million), which at one point was a record transfer fee. To date, he has made 280 appearances for Liverpool, contributing 24 goals and helping the team win the Premier League, UEFA Europa League, EFL Cup, World Champions League and two Premier League titles.
