Earlier this month, former Brazilian national team star Oscar dos Santos officially bid farewell to Shanghai Port, marking the end of his eight-year-long journey to the Chinese Super League. The 33-year-old veteran, with a fresh start, returned to the familiar Sao Paulo, where a three-year deal was agreed.

Oscar, a player developed in the youth teams of São Paulo, played for a local team from 2008 to 2010 before moving to another powerhouse of the Barclays Premier League, Sporting Clube Internacional. In 2012, he joined English Premier League giants Chelsea, kicking off an illustrious career during which he won two Premier League trophies, an EFL Cup and a Europa League title.

In January 2017, 25-year-old Oscar joined Shanghai Port for a transfer fee of 60 million euros, a move that created an uproar in the soccer world. Some criticized him for abandoning the glittering prospects of the Premier League and choosing to "sabotage his own career" by joining the Chinese Super League. However, when Oscar left Shanghai Port, it was rumored that he might return to the Chinese market, but in the end he chose Sao Paulo and signed a contract with the club with an annual salary of R$24 million (HK$30 million), which is much lower than his salary at Shanghai Port.

It has been revealed that Oscar's total salary reached 192 million euros (about 1.6 billion Hong Kong dollars) during his eight-year career at Shanghai Port. No wonder netizens teased that he has made a fortune and now it's time for others to share in that fortune, and chose to return to Brazil for his development.
