Manchester City suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the Premier League, their eighth loss in their last 11 matches, with just one win. Former Premier League Player of the Year and England Footballer of the Year Phil Cotton has struggled since the end of the Europa League summer, with the midfielder openly admitting that there is a "psychological haze" in the team.

Phil Cotton was blunt: "I am extremely disappointed with the outcome of this race. Despite leading at one point, I was in control of the game. We had a chance to make it 1-1, however, I shouldn't have let the loss get the better of me. I'm not used to suffering defeats so often. Initially, I made mistakes in my tactical setup, but consecutive losses lead to increased psychological pressure and I will be more determined to stick together in the face of adversity."

Phil Cotton perhaps epitomizes City's psychological crisis. He had 19 great performances in the Premier League last season. However, when he played for the England national team this summer, he turned in seven unproductive games. So far in the Premier League this season, he has contributed only one assist in 11 games, and that was from a corner kick, a low production that has left fans frustrated.
