Premier League rivals Manchester City are facing an unprecedented "trial of the century" after allegedly breaching 115 financial rules. The case entered a crucial stage on Friday (6), with a three-member jury reviewing relevant documents, however, due to the complexity of the case, it is expected that it may take several months before the verdict is known. Regardless of the outcome, both parties are likely to appeal, and a final decision is expected by the end of the next quarter.
According to the Daily Mail, the English Football Association (EFA) has long been pursuing a case against Manchester City. The details of the "115-count" case have been kept under wraps since it began in mid-September. City are accused of providing false financial information in relation to the period from 2009 to 2018, concealing the source of funding for former captain Vincent Vinziani and some of the players, and refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
It is understood that it could take months for the jury to reach an initial verdict, with an appeal almost certain to be lodged by the England soccer team and Manchester City. The possibility exists that the entire case process could lead to a final verdict before the end of the 25/26 season. It wasn't so long ago that former coach Molenu had publicly satirized City leader Gaudio's path to the title: "Unclean!" Godio hit back by claiming that City had maintained their innocence before being proven guilty.
