Westham striker Michali Antonio had a close brush with death in last month's thriller. After a life-and-death ordeal, he has tenaciously returned to earth. The 34-year-old was discharged from hospital on Tuesday (31) after a miraculous treatment to usher in the Chinese New Year. The "back from the dead" star made his first public appearance, firmly stating that he will try to return to the field and dispel rumors of his retirement.
Antonio shared a photo of himself on crutches on social media platforms and posted a gratitude-filled message for the Chinese New Year, "Every year at this time, I am asked if I have time to be thankful, and I always find the right words to say. However, this year I know deep down that if I am to be thankful, it is first and foremost because I am still alive!"
He said, "In the past, I have taken survival for granted. I thought every day was a given, but this experience has opened my eyes. I am grateful to God for giving me the strength to survive ...... Happy New Year and I look forward to returning to soccer in the near future." The Jamaica-based player underwent surgery on a broken foot not long ago and is expected to be out for more than a year.
