Former Manchester United winger Nani, 38, took to social media to bid farewell to his soccer career, marking the end of his nearly 20 years of competitive play. He once played alongside Crow at Manchester United and was known as "Crow's successor", the leader of this generation of successors. However, while Crow has yet to retire, Nani has already announced his retirement.
On his personal social media platforms, Nani wrote this, "At the club, I decided to end my career. It has been a wonderful journey. I would like to thank all those who have guided, helped and accompanied me through the peaks and valleys of a career that has spanned more than 20 years. I have had many memorable moments. Now, I turn the page on a new chapter in my life and focus on new goals and dreams... Goodbye!"
Nani began his career at Staatin and joined Manchester United in 2007, following in the footsteps of Crowe. In his eight seasons at United, he won four Premier League titles, a Europa League title and a world title. As Crowe's "first successor", Nani took over the captain's armband after Crowe left the field injured in the 2016 UEFA Nations League final against France, eventually leading the team to win the title. Nevertheless, there is still a gap between him and Crow in terms of personal achievement.
Nani spent the latter part of his career traveling throughout the United States and Australia. His final campaign was with Emadora in the Portuguese Superliga. On the occasion of his retirement announcement, Manchester United's official website paid tribute to him by posting a photo of his signature backflip celebration.
