On the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's recent form. He said that Welbeck's form has surpassed that of any striker in the United squad and believes that United made a mistake in letting him go.
In response, Roy Keane threw out a different opinion, responding to Neville squarely by pointing out that just because a player has come back to form after leaving the team, it doesn't simply infer that they should have been retained by the team in the first place.
Neville has not backed down and is adamant that Welbeck will undoubtedly be a key part of United's squad if they expand to 24 men and intend to maintain five or six strikers. Keane disagreed, emphasizing that players do sometimes have a second career after leaving United, but that does not equate to the demanding standards they are capable of at the club.
The two former Manchester United stars debated the subject, each arguing their own point of view.
