On December 21st, the clock struck Beijing, and the 17th round of the 2024-2025 Premier League season started again. Manchester City took on Aston Villa on the road, but the match did not go the way City fans expected, and ended in a 1-2 defeat, suffering yet another setback in recent times.

At the beginning of the game, City didn't show any momentum. In the first half, a precise pass from Villa's Morgan Rogers led to an easy goal for Dolan, making the score 1-0. Villa's morale was high, while City looked a bit caught off guard, and their counterattack was lackluster.

As the game resumed, City stepped up their attack but could never find a way to break through. Towards the end of the game, Morgan Rogers stepped up once again with a low shot that sealed the win for Villa and dashed City's hopes of an equalizer.

In extra time, Foden equalized for City, but it was too late. City suffered a 1-2 defeat, losing 9 out of their last 12 matches and dropping to sixth place in the table. In contrast, Villa moved up to 28 points with the win, overtaking City and moving into fifth place in the table.

The win is certainly encouraging for Villa, who are expected to continue their strong performance in the future. Manchester City, on the other hand, will need to make a quick adjustment to their form, or else they will struggle to make any headway in the Premier League this season.
