In an interview on January 12, Arsenal midfielder Merino revealed his professional mentality and style on the field.
Merino pointed out that professional players need to learn to filter outside noise on social media and in soccer matches. He emphasized, "In a top league like the Premier League, winning doesn't happen in a day. The key is to find the balance between focus and pressure. After all, no one can consistently be at their best, and when we take the pressure off, we can often unleash our best performances."
Talking about his personal characteristics, Merino said, "I am not a tall power player, but I have my own style. I am not following David Silva's style, but passing and ball control is what I am good at. In the midfield, I never get nervous even when faced with opponents pressing, and that's where my strength lies."
Merino also spoke of his similarities with top midfielders such as David Silva and Iniesta: "Maybe I can't dish it out as well as they do despite the pressure, but I have a unique style. What we have in common is that we all remain calm and confident in the face of challenges and strive to perform at our best."
