In a January 9 update, German newspaper Images revealed the strong pursuit of Bundesliga Dortmund's Dutch shot-stopper Mallen by English Premier League rivals Newcastle United. Mallen is not only known for his excellent scoring skills, but his Arsenal youth team development experience also adds to the mix.

Nonetheless, Newcastle United have a plan in place for their attacking line and seem to be in no hurry to bring in Mallon. However, if the primary plan is thwarted, Mallon becomes the best of the alternatives. This strategy shows Newcastle United's flexibility and thoroughness in the transfer market.

Picture Post further disclosed that Mallon has reached a transfer agreement with Premier League's Aston Villa, with an annual salary expected to be as high as €8.5 million. Such a high salary is very attractive for Mallon, but also adds obstacles to the road of Newcastle United's introduction.

In the face of competition from Villa, Newcastle United will need to act quickly and submit a competitive offer to Borussia Dortmund to have a chance of stepping in and bringing in Mallon. However, given that Mallon has already signed for Villa, Newcastle United will undoubtedly be faced with a lot of challenges if they want to make this deal happen.
