In the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville praised Welbeck's recent performances, saying that he is in better shape than any other striker in United's current squad. Neville firmly believes that United missed out on Welbeck and that the former player should have stayed in the team. However, Roy Keane has challenged Neville's views, seriously questioning, "It's too hasty to assume that players should have stayed just because they've been impressive since they left the club."

Neville didn't back down from Keane's rebuttal, elaborating further, "If United can maintain a 24-man squad and plan to keep five or six strikers, Welbeck will undoubtedly be an integral part of the team." But Keane was not convinced, suggesting, "It's true that some players are able to launch a successful career after leaving United, but that doesn't mean they are capable enough to meet the extremely high standards and strict requirements set by United." And so it was that the two former United stars engaged in a heated debate on the subject, each arguing their own point of view.
