Recently, on Sky Sports' The Overlap program, former Manchester United star Scholes launched a blistering attack on the club's soaring ticket prices. He unabashedly pointed out that fans have not felt any positive change after the takeover by the Invesco Group, with the team's performance deteriorating while ticket prices are rising.
Scholes angrily questioned, "It's been nearly a year since the Inrix Group took over Manchester United and the status quo is still terrible. I can't think of anything positive they have done for the club. Can't they offer more affordable tickets when the stadium is deteriorating? Why should United fans be made to pay for the team's poor performance?"
He went on to enthuse, "It's a whopping £66 for a ticket. Manchester is full of deprived areas and Inrix Group boss Ratcliffe comes from a deprived area like Failsworth. For a ticket to cost £120 if you bring one child to the game, and up to £300-400 for a family, it's outrageous."
Scholes expressed his strong displeasure with the United management's behavior: "What shame do these owners have in raising ticket prices? We are probably in the midst of one of the worst seasons in the history of the Premier League, yet they have the cheek to increase prices. The club is going nowhere, the team is mediocre and they have not done anything substantial for the fans."
He specifically mentioned Ratcliffe: "Compared to other American owners, Ratcliffe grew up in Manchester and was a Manchester United fan, but he is still jacking up ticket prices, which shows that they don't care about their fans."
