Cameroon international Sanji, the former Arsenal and Barcelona star, took to social media on Wednesday (15) to announce the end of his soccer career. Although the 36-year-old Sanji has rarely been seen in the top flight in recent years, he has had an unheralded and illustrious career - having traveled to Djibouti in East Africa over the past three years - and has not only managed to land a professional career, but has also won the league title twice, retiring in a position of glory.

In his retirement statement, Sanji looked back fondly on his soccer journey: My soccer career began as a child running barefoot on the pitch, and it has long been a miracle for me to be able to travel to France to play soccer. However, this is only the beginning of the story. I played for Arsenal and Barcelona, two of the giants of the soccer world, and was helped by many people. Charlton, Westham, Rubin Kazan, Sion, and Arta/Solar 7 are names that will forever be engraved in my heart. I feel incredibly honored to have represented the Cameroon national team and I will always cherish all the good things that soccer has brought me.
