Spanish midfielder Shaji Olamos, 37, has been on the sidelines as his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expired this summer. He was rumored to be on the verge of joining the Etihad in the United Arab Emirates, however, La Liga powerhouse Xavier stepped up to the plate at a crucial moment, and in order to fulfill Shaji Olamos's desire to return to his old club, he accepted a pay cut offer without hesitation to wear Xavier's kit again after 18 years.
Despite Shaji Olamos' prolonged failure to find a home, it was widely believed that he was eager to return to Xavier, but the La Liga giants kept ignoring it. Just as he was about to accept an offer from the Etihad, Xavier, at the insistence of coach Wendy Leyba, suddenly changed their attitude and extended an olive branch to Shaji Olamos, quickly finalizing a short-term deal.
