La Liga giants Barcelona have officially announced that they have renewed a contract with talented 18-year-old midfield star Gavi until June 30, 2026, with a hefty liquidated damages of 1 billion euros, with the intention of deterring any potential acquirers, including Premier League rivals Liverpool, who had been interested in signing Gavi.

Gavi joined Barcelona's youth system seven years ago. After being promoted to the first team last season, he performed exceptionally well, appearing in 47 matches and contributing two goals. This season, he continues to be favored by the coach to be the centerpiece of the starting lineup, while he has become a regular in the Spanish national team and is expected to represent them in the upcoming World Cup.

Given the interest shown by several top clubs in signing Garvey, especially Liverpool's desire for the talented youngster, Barcelona naturally didn't dare to take it lightly. After renewing Garvey's contract, the team managed to fend off Liverpool's attempts to poach him.
