This summer, Tottenham Hotspur Hotspur Club has made a lot of moves in the field of youth training, reintroducing former Premier League stars Yei Yei Toni and Dikol as coaches of the youth training academy, respectively, and is committed to cultivating a new generation of soccer talents.
Dickol, the 39-year-old former England international, announced his retirement earlier this year, with the final leg of his career journey in League One with Newlands. He had his start at Westham but really made his mark at Tottenham, joining the team three times, making 363 appearances and scoring 143 goals. This stint was the start of his coaching career and he has always had a deep affection for young players, having interacted with a child with cancer in an act of kindness that touched the entire soccer world.
Another 39-year-old, Yayetoni, who was involved in youth training at Tottenham in a part-time capacity at the end of last year, has taken over the coaching role on a full-time basis. Although he did not spend his career at Spurs, he played for Barcelona and Manchester City, winning two La Liga titles and three Premier League titles. Since retiring, he has also coached as far afield as Ukraine and Russia.
However, there has been just as much off-the-field news about Yayetoni, such as the birthday cake incident during his Manchester City days and his expulsion from the team for encouraging a teammate to visit a prostitute during a charity match. Against this backdrop, it has become a topic of interest to see whether his role as youth coach will influence the values of young players.
