July 21, 2023 Alert, breaking news from Marca suggests that Lazio Football Club are showing a keen interest in Brazilian winger Marcelo.

Marcelo ended his contract with Real Madrid at the end of June and is currently roaming around as a free agent, and despite a number of clubs jumping at the chance to sign him, Marcelo's next move remains a mystery. Initially, France's Lille were keen on him, but more recently, Italy's Lazio have joined the chasing pack.

Lazio are said to have had initial communication with Marcelo's team to probe the former Real Madrid captain's wishes. Despite his lack of appearances for Real Madrid last season, a new challenge may help him rediscover his best form. And the Italian media have already begun to explore the marketing effect that Marcelo's arrival could have for Lazio.

At first, Marcelo seemed to favor places like Qatar, Turkey or the UAE, where he could compete in the Champions League and be integrated by his Brazilian compatriots. But while Turkey has its charms, Marcelo prefers to continue his career in Europe's top leagues, and Lazio might just be the place of his dreams.

Lazio have made a lot of moves in this year's summer transfer window, as they not only acquired Granada's Luiz Maximiano for €11.2 million, but also spent around €6 million to sign Real Madrid's youth academy's Mario Guerra.
